As a member of the fastener industry, thread terminology must be one of the indispensable knowledge.
Thread line: The trajectory of a point moving along the surface of a cylinder or cone. The axial displacement of the point is proportional to the corresponding angular displacement.
Thread: On the surface of a cylinder or cone, a continuous protrusion with a prescribed tooth profile formed along the thread line. Note: The protrusion refers to the solid part between the two sides of the thread, also known as the tooth.
Cylindrical thread: the thread formed on the surface of a cylinder.
Taper thread: the thread formed on the surface of the cone.
External thread: the thread formed on the outer surface of a cylinder or cone.
Internal thread: the thread formed on the inner surface of a cylinder or cone.
Thread pair: the connection formed by the mutual screwing of internal and external threads. (Guide: Stories you should know about bolts and threads)
Single thread: a thread formed along a spiral line.
Multi-thread thread: A thread formed along two or more thread lines, which are equally spaced in the axial direction.
Right-hand thread: the thread that is screwed in when rotating clockwise.
Left-handed thread: the thread that is screwed in when rotating counterclockwise.
Complete Thread: A thread with a complete shape on both the top and bottom of the tooth.
Incomplete thread: a thread with a complete bottom and an incomplete top.
Screw tail: Incomplete thread at the bottom of the tooth transitioning to a smooth surface.
Effective thread: a thread composed of a complete thread and an incomplete thread, excluding the thread tail.
